Report finds most UAE-based CISOs not ready for a cyberattack

Some 72% of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) across the UAE believe their organisation is unprepared to handle a cyberattack according to the inaugural 2021 Voice of the CISO report – newly released by Proofpoint, a leading global cybersecurity and compliance company.

The report explores key cybersecurity challenges facing CISOs after an unprecedented 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the new survey’s findings, 70% of UAE-based CISOs also consider human error to be their biggest cyber vulnerability, proving that the work-from-home model necessitated by the pandemic is testing CISOs like never before.

The 2021 Voice of the CISO report examines global third-party survey responses from more than 1,400 CISOs at mid- to large-size organisations across different industries.

For the report, California headquartered Proofpoint interviewed 100 CISOs throughout Q1 2020 in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, United States, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, and Singapore.

The survey explores three key areas: the threat risk and types of cyberattacks CISOs have to face daily, the levels of employee and organisational preparedness to face the risks, and the impact of supporting a hybrid workforce as businesses re-open their corporate offices following the worst of the pandemic.

Key challanges

The 2021 Voice of the CISO report also covers the challenges CISOs face in their roles and business expectations of their teams.

Lucia Milica, global resident CISO at Proofpoint, said: “Last year [2020], cybersecurity teams around the world were challenged to enhance their security posture in a new and changing landscape, literally overnight.

“This required a balancing act between supporting remote work and avoiding business interruption, while securing those environments.

“With the future of work becoming increasingly flexible, this challenge now extends into next year [2021] and beyond,” Milica added.
